Sargans Castle - the defiant fortress

Sargans Castle, perched on a rock above the old town of Sargans, takes visitors on a journey back to the 13th century.  In the castle tower, a museum tells the history of the region.  In the historic rooms you can eat, drink and have a pleasant time.

Mentioned for the first time in writing in the 13th century, Sargans Castle has belonged for more than 100 years to the commune of Sargans.  The former count’s home houses in its tower an important museum for local history.  Behind the impressive castle walls, you can eat, drink and be merry!  The historic knights’ room for centuries has been a venue for events and parties.

Voyage of discovery to the Middle Ages

The Sarganserland Museum is housed in the tower of Sargans Castle. Spread over six floors, you can learn lots of exciting facts about the history, sights and customs of Sarganserland.

Young and young-at-heart visitors can follow the new children's trail. Those with a good nose can try their hand at making a knight's helmet, crafting a banner or dressing up in medieval costume. Count Jörg and Countess Anna, the last aristocratic lords of the 15th century castle, will be on hand to help you discover, try out, laugh and marvel at 15 exciting stations.

The Sarganserland Museum and Sargans Castle can be explored individually or on guided tours (book at the museum ticket office). A walk through the picturesque little town of Sargans is the perfect accompaniment to a visit to the castle! The narrow alleyways below the castle are easy to reach and also offer good places to eat in a unique atmosphere.
